بدأ النظام كنظام مركزي لإدارة اختبارات الثانوية العامة من حيث الرصد و المتابعة و طباعة الشهادات ووضع الصلاحيات للمستخدمين. ثم تم بعد ذلك تم تعميمه على جميع المراحل الدراسية, وتمت تسمية النظام بنظام نور و ذلك بعد تصويت كان مفتوح لإدارات التعليم و منسوبيها.
من صفحة ولي الأمر على نظام نور يتم الضغط على أيقونة تسجيل الأبناء.
من خلال ذلك النظام التعليمي يتمكن المعلمين وأولياء الأمور من متابعة تقدم الطلاب وأدائهم في الدروس والاختبارات عبر النظام.
